The event took place on the grounds of the Mill Pond Park in Newington, Connecticut. The Eastern Vintage Police Car Association was invited to participate by the department’s Community Services Officer, Jamie DeSimone. Officer DeSimone was assigned by her department to plan and organize the first time Newington event. Officer DeSimone was quoted in the New Britain Herald as saying “Ultimately what we’re looking to do this evening is make every officer a community relations officer”.  DeSimone further stated. “If we develop those relationships, people will feel comfortable calling us when they want to make an anonymous tip and trust that we won’t release their name. It allows us to open up the lines of communication with the public to reduce and prevent crime.”

The event goers were treated to many activities including a K-9 demonstration, a giant three-story family slide and various types of family games for the public to take part in, including a “Police versus Children” tug of war. Food was served including hotdogs, ice cream, snacks and beverages. All absolutely free for the visiting public.
